Abortion

One cannot say with certainty how all young people view homosexuality, fornication and abortion being acceptable or not with God. However, it is my opinion, that far more oppose such practices than the media would like to admit. Many factors have contributed to many young people accepting abortion as an acceptable alternative. Remember, if parents do not properly teach their children someone else will teach them, and that which they are taught may or may not be in line with God’s moral values. So, what should you teach your children about abortion?

You should teach your children that which is being aborted is not fetal tissue or some kind of a blob of protoplasm, but a baby!!! In an article entitled, "Abortion," Wesley Simons list the nine steps of human life:

Conception: Human Life begins

18-25 days: Heart begins to beat.

6 weeks: Baby begins to move; brain waves are already present and can be recorded on an electroencephalogram.

7 weeks: If the baby's lip is tickled, he will pull away.

7 weeks: Grabs, swims freely, electrocardiogram can be used to record heart impulse.

10 weeks: At this stage the baby is so perfectly formed that he even has fingertips.

12 weeks: Breathes (fluid), sucks thumb, swallows, tastes, cries, sleeps and wakes; all organ systems functioning, including mental.

Beyond 12 weeks: Nothing new is formed; the baby begins to grow rapidly.

Birth: Exists from the womb, breathes air, takes his food by mouth.

Teach your children that only human life is made "in the image of God" (Gen.1:26)! We are informed regarding human life in Jeremiah 1:5, "Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee, and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee. . ." Have them read Psalms 139:13-16 and they will quickly see that God recognized the baby in the womb. "For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them." Furthermore, teach them that the Bible clearly states, "Thou shalt not kill" (Rom.13:9). Over twenty million, yes, twenty million precious, innocent babies have been murdered while still in their mother’s womb! The far majority of abortions (some estimate as high as 99%) are for convenience!

In the old Testament we read of those who sacrificed their children to Baal (Jer.19:5). While abortion is not the sacrificing of children to Baal, it is nevertheless the sacrificing of children! Whenever a society is more concerned about dogs, snails, trees, and whales than about human life, it speaks volumes! People would rise up in arms if a bill were passed which would terminate the incompetent, the retarded, the handicapped, a minority group of people, and the aged. Wherein lies the difference regarding the aforementioned, and in abortion! It is absolutely barbaric and criminal for any nation to turn to such a course of action! Murder is murder, and those who practice such will not enter into heaven (Gal.5:19-21).

What should one do if they have had an abortion? They should humble themselves before God (Jas.4:10) repent and confess their sins unto Him, and He will graciously cleanse them with the blood of Christ (I Jno.1:7-9).
