"Lite" Sin
God doesn't regard sin lightly. Sin is so ugly and awful that our Father gave His only Son's life for its sacrifice. The soul that sins shall die (Ezekiel 18:4). Paul thundered that all men have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God and that the wages of sin is death (Romans 3:23, 6:23). God has demand that all men everywhere repent (Acts 17:30). There is no such thing as "lite" sin.
Am I wrong, or does it seem that Christians believe that there are "lite" sins? The devil can use us if we're not careful. Christians are people who do not seek to be evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22), yet it seems that we sometimes regard "lite" sin in our dress, associations and speech. At times there are no tighter clothes worn by anyone than those worn by Christians. Sometimes no one has a more worldly tongue than Christians. It seems that Christians are found more often with worldly people in worldly places. Obviously we have to live in the world, but we must not be of the world. When confronted with these things Christians protest their innocence, yet clearly adopt worldly ways to one degree or another. In such cases the Christian must believe that God doesn't mind "lite" sin and will not punish "little" sins. If not, why not?
James declares that Christians keep themselves unspotted from the world (1:27). Not one spot of worldliness is to be found on the Christian. He again warns that when Christians become friendly with worldliness, then they have become enemies of God (4:4). Paul admonished the Christians in Rome not to be like the world but to be transformed, having become living sacrifices, holy, acceptable to God (Romans 12:1, 2). To conform to the standards of the world to any degree is obviously sinful.
Certainly, no one would dare to attend worship in the dress of a punk rocker. It isn't so bad though when we show up in clothes which are too tight. It is certainly wrong to be an alcoholic. Some in the body of Christ try to justify social drinking (whatever that is). Again we agree that to miss a service of the church is wrong. Some habitually forsake Bible classes and Sunday evening services, however. Again the question: why isn't the later as wrong as the former? Have we been led into the philosophy that "lite" sin is alright? Do we really think that God will overlook some of our "lite" sins? To believe such is to be self-condemned.
There is not such thing as "lite" sin. Just one is enough to keep us out of the promised land (Matthew 19:16-22, Luke 18:18-30). Sin, all of it, has put a wall between ourselves and the God of heaven. It takes the blood of Jesus Christ to wash it away (1 John 5:7). Jesus Christ purchased our pardon with His blood. To think that some sins are "lite" sins which God will overlook is to say that the blood of God's Son was unnecessary. How dare we blaspheme! Lite Pepsi may have few calories, but what we consider to be "lite" sin is not "lite" at all, but in the eyes of God our Father, has all the weight of any other sin, and until it is forgiven, the wall between God and sinner remains. There is no such thing as "lite" sin!!!
