"Sin & Morality"

THE ABANDONMENT OF BIBLICAL MORALITY

The servant of old declared, "Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people" (Prov.14:34). Sin had so engulfed the people of Jeremiah’s day that he said: "Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? Nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush. . ." (Jer.8:12). The moral climate of America is at a record ebb. Historians quickly point to the end of World War II as the beginning of America’s moral decline. The world was introduced to television in about 1949, and has not been the same since. The ungodliness that is taking place through this medium is truly shocking! For a real eye opener read the American Family Association Journal a denominational magazine which "promotes the Biblical ethic of decency in American society with primary emphasis on TV and other media." In the 1950's Hugh M. Hefner started publishing the "Play Boy" Magazine. Since then other pornographic material and videos have inundated the world. Then there is the internet which is being used as a vehicle for sex predators, and pornographic material.

So, from the printed page to television and the internet, the American public is being bombarded to abandon Biblical morality! What approach is used to replace Biblical morality? There are three approaches the world uses to solve the dilemma of what constitutes morality. They are legalism, which adheres to strict adherence to rules, antinomianism, which is opposed to any laws and situation ethics which states that circumstances alters the situation, which also emphasizes the principle of love alone. Since no one approach is considered the standard, each person is left to choose for himself. The end result of following such a course of action, as Batsell Barrett Baxter concludes, " leads to anarchy and ultimately to the total breakdown of civilization"!

Beyond any doubt, this proves that man is not capable of determining what constitutes morality! Since God made man in His image (Gen.1:26), He knows what man needs and has given His word as the absolute standard to follow (2 Tim.3:16-17; 2 Pet.1:3). Beloved, only a complete return to God and His word will solve the moral dilemma and restore the values that made this nation what it was! "O earth, earth, earth, hear the word of the Lord" (Jer.22:9)!
