Little Things
Have you ever paused during the course of the day and spent a few moments reflecting upon your blessings? Have you ever noticed how many little things you number as God's gifts? Small things, perhaps so insignificant as to be unnoticed by others, constitute and important part of the pleasurable things in our lives. The song of a bird, a warm smile, the laughter of our children, the kindness of a friend - these are all small things, but who can measure their worth?
God is also impressed with small things. The pages of His word echo over and over His pleasure with small deeds; so small as to perhaps be unnoticed by others, but remembered and recorded by God.
God praised a cup of cold water (Mt. 10:42)
A visit tot he sick or lonely (Mt.
25:36)
Clothes for the needy (Mt. 25:36)
Food for the hungry (Mt. 25:35)
He praised Dorcus because she sewed
for others (Acts 9:39)
He praised Tychicus because he
carried a letter (Eph. 6:21)
These are such little things, but they were all important to the Creator of the universe.
Sometimes life is frustrating. Reflections on God's wondrous work in our lives causes us to want to do enormous and mighty things for Him. Because we can't do those mighty things for God, we feel insignificant, perhaps even worthless. This is when remembering God's love for little things brings so much comfort. We might not be able to go to Africa, but we can go to our neighbor and invite him to church services. We can't feed all the hungry children in the world, but we can go to someone who is sick and take them food. We can delight in doing "little things" for the Lord because they mean so much to Him.
Little things - don't they make our lives worth living!
"I am only one; but still I am
one.
I cannot do everything, but still, I can do something.
And because I cannot do everything.
I will not refuse to do something I can do"
