Bible Fools
The Bible has much to say about certain kinds of fools and it would be well for us to look at them and examine ourselves to make sure we do not fit into any of the groups. David has said, "The fool hath said in his heart, there is no God" (Psalms 14:1). Here is the ATHEISTIC FOOL. Always growing to some degree in the school of atheistic thought, with its skepticism, agnosticism, deism, light criticism, and Unitarianism as companions. It matters not, however, how many there are not what twist the make to avoid God; in judgment "...every knee shall bow to me (Christ), and every tongue shall confess to God" (Romans 14:11).
Proverbs 12:15 describes the EGOTISTICAL FOOL in this manner: "The way of a fool is right in his own eyes," and Paul says, "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools." (Romans 1:22). Here is one who will not listen, thinking himself not only smarter than those around him, but in essence, wiser than God.
Jesus teaches about the DISOBEDIENT FOOL in His story of the wise man and the foolish man building their houses upon the rock and sand respectively (Matthew 7:21-27): "And everyone that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man..." (Matthew 7:26). What more needs to be said, for one who hears and yet does not do the Lord's will is indeed foolish.
In Luke 12:15-20 Jesus tells of the RICH FOOL who thought he could satisfy his soul with material things and acted as if he had a perpetual least on life. The most tragic mistake anyone can make is the one of the rich fool, for he left God out of all his plans.
We also find the PRAYING FOOL (Proverbs 10:8) and the MEDDLING FOOL (Proverbs 20:3) in scripture to warn us that we must give account for our every word (Matthew 21:36, 37) and to show that truly only fools will meddle in the business of other people. Every man has enough to watch out for; for himself, without involving himself in these two fleshly indulgences.
Finally, the example is given of the CARELESS FOOL by Jesus in the parable of the five wise and foolish virgins (Matthew 25:1-13). The five were unwise because they were careless in that they did not make sufficient preparation, and they were foolish because they were lost.
Friends, make every preparation and precaution to be sure that you are not found classified as one of these.
