Why Marriages Fail
Basically, marriages fail because one, or in come cases, both individuals in the marriage relationship fail in some important characteristic. We are presently being bombarded with propaganda that would have us believe that marriage and the husband-wife relationship have not stood the test. It is not the institution of marriage that has failed the test; it is the people involved who have failed the test! Marriage works as God intended it to, only when both partners work as God intended them to in this relationship. A large percentage of marriages are entered for very shallow reasons. Marriage is not for babies either physically or emotionally. The following traits are all trademarks of immaturity, and one of which can destroy a marriage. We write these for those who are dating and who will be getting married. Even those who are happily married may profit from these thoughts. Here are some marriage destroyers:
1. SELFISHNESS - A baby is totally selfish, always seeking its own way; so are some adults. If one marriage partner is selfish, that's bad enough. When two selfish people marry, a powder keg is created that will eventually explode.
2. INGRATITUDE - A baby is not grateful for the sacrifices its parents make. A person who never expresses gratitude to one's mate for sacrifices and favors bestowed is asking for problems.
3. IRRESPONSIBILITY - A person who will not carry his or her share of the load, do his or her work, accept responsibility and fulfill it, places a strain on a marriage that often destroys its.
4. INSTABILITY - Some people won't stay with a job for more than a few weeks. They quit and jump to another. Some are great at starting a project, but will never finish it. This trait has soured many a marriage.
5. OVER REACTION - This trait causes one to react emotionally to the conflicts and problems of life as a child would. Such as a wife may run home to mother at the first disagreement with her husband. Such a husband may react to losing his job by drinking himself into stupor. For revenge for some slight one may run to someone besides his or her mate, committing adultery.
6. FOOLISH STANDARDS OF LOVE - Whether or not a man takes his wife to see her parents at Christmas or whether or not she cooks his favorite meals once a week - this does not necessarily indicate love or its absence; yet many marriages have crumbled over such childish standards.
