"The Church/Worship"

Funny Isn't It?

Funny isn't it how twenty dollars looks so big when you take it tot he contribution plate - and how small it is when you go the grocery.

Funny isn't it how long an hour or so serving God seems - and how short 60 minutes are when fishing, or attending a football game. We applaud when a ball game goes into overtime, but we can't stand it when the preacher goes over five minutes longer than we are programmed for.

Funny isn't it how laborious it is to read a chapter in the Bible and how easy it is to read a 300 page best selling book.

Funny isn't it how troublesome it is to read the church bulletin each week, but we are eager to read the fifty page daily paper.

Funny isn't it how we can't think of anything to say when we talk to God in prayer, but we have no trouble at all in thinking of some gossip to tell a neighbor.

Funny isn't it how hard it is for us to learn from the Good book and tell others, but we have no trouble at all in learning all the statistics and records there is to know about football and baseball players and discuss them with much ease.

Funny isn't it that the people who live within several blocks of the church building don't attend regularly, but those who live 25-30 minutes away never miss a service.

Funny isn't it that the people that talk about all the problems of the church are the ones who seldom attend.

Funny isn't it how many different excuses we can find not to attend worship inside a building, but to miss a football game in the rain is most unheard of because we have a coat and umbrella.

Funny isn't it how hard it is to fit into our schedules a church event in the next two weeks, and we always adjust our schedules at the last minute for a social function.

Funny isn't it how many different excuses we can find not to attend gospel meetings, the fact is, God has commanded us to attend all the services when the elders have seen fit for us to meet.

ON THE JUDGMENT DAY - IT WILL NOT BE FUNNY
