The Absolute Truth
Doesn't it seem lately that everything is coming unglued and the whole world is turning topsy-turvy? With just a casual look at the headlines, one will find governments being unseated, large corporations going bankrupt, the value of most stocks tumbling, homes breaking up, college educations not as valuable as they once were and job security is almost a thing of the past. Can we depend on anything anymore? In what can we trust?
Religious philosophers have preached permissive morals and situation ethics for so long that many who once defended the truth no longer have convictions of right or wrong, good or evil, bitter or sweet (Isaiah 5:20). But, if that's the case who can we believe? In what can we trust?
When all else fails, why not try something that is exact - "THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH." This Truth assures us that God does not change (Malachi 3:6; Hebrews 13:8), and that His word, the Bible, is completely trustworthy (Romans 3:4; 2 Peter 3:9). His instructions to man are not a mystery, and they are not hidden in an uncertain, vague or ambiguous language. To the honest, Christ affirms, "You shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free" (John 8:32).
Only God is absolutely reliable. Because this is true, we must not trust in uncertain riches, but only in the living God (1 Timothy 6:17). We know that He is just and will provide what we need most (2 Timothy 1:12; Romans 8:28). He is THE only foundation that is tried and sure (Isaiah 28:16). Like His apostles, we are sure that Christ is the Son of the living God (John 6:68-69). This fact is made certain to us "by many infallible proofs" (Luke 1:4; Acts 1:3). The gospel revealed from heaven has been made more sure by the testimony of His inspired apostles and the endorsement of God by signs and miracles (Galatians 1:11-12; 2 Peter 1:19).
Now, death is inescapable - of this we are certain. But we can be absolutely sure there is another life after death (2 Corinthians 5:1). We also know that not only will we die, but we will also be judged (Hebrews 9:7). God has given all men the assurance of that fact (Acts 17:31). And, we can be "sure that the judgment is according to truth" (Romans 2:2). Therefore, the faithful believe that all their "labor is not in vain in the Lord" (1 Corinthians 15:58).
Since all these things come from absolute truth, we should give diligence in making our eternal salvation sure (2 Peter 1:10). The Bible reveals there is only one way (John 14:6; Ephesians 4:4-6), and there is absolutely no other salvation possible. Christ, and His way, offers our only hope for eternal life, and that is THE ABSOLUTE TRUTH.
