Can A Child Of God Fall From Grace?
Friends, as long as one's faith in God prompts him to do God's bidding, he will not fall from grace! However, a child of God can choose to depart from the Lord. "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?" (Romans 6:16). Actually, the following crucial questions clearly set forth the truth that a child of God can fall from grace.
1. Can one stop believing in the Lord?
2. Can one who believes today quit believing?
3. Can one's faith be severed?
4. Can one's faith be overthrown?
5. Can one's faith be made shipwreck?
6. And, can one depart from the faith?
From a study of the following scriptures: 1 Corinthians 9:27; 10:12, Galatians 5:4, 1 Timothy 1:19, 20, Hebrews 12:1; 4:1, 2 Peter 2:20-22, the answer to the aforementioned questions is a resounding YES!
Beloved, the question is not does God stop loving man. For, God wants all to be saved (Acts 10:34-35, 1 Timothy 2:3-4). Unfortunately, all people do not want to do what God says to be saved. Someone has correctly observed, "If it is impossible for a child of God to be lost, why then does the devil waste his time trying to send Christians to hell?"
Now, a child of God does not have to fall from grace, but he can fall from grace if he so chooses. A child of God can also repent and come back to the Lord (Acts 8:13-23). Let us heed the words of the Hebrew writer, "Let us therefore give diligence to enter into that rest, that no man fall after the same example of disobedience" (Hebrews 4:11).
